Faculty and senior students are invited to serve as peer reviewers. The role is voluntary, time-bounded, and essential to the quality of the journal. Below is what the position involves.
1. Why Review Matters
Peer review is the mechanism that separates a research journal from a blog. Every manuscript that appears in the public repository has been read carefully by at least two reviewers who judged it on its merits. Your review directly improves the work that gets published.
2. What We Ask of You
- Time. Around 3–5 hours of careful reading per manuscript, spread over a 21-day window.
- Written comments. Specific, page-referenced observations that the author can act on.
- Final recommendation. One of Accept Submission, Minor Revision, Major Revision, or Decline Submission.
- Confidentiality. No sharing, no discussing, no forwarding outside the OJMS system.
3. The 21-Day Window
The due date is displayed on your My Assignments list the moment a manuscript is assigned. If you cannot meet it, contact the editor at least one week in advance so the manuscript can be reassigned or the deadline extended.
4. Double-Blind Review
You will not see the author's name, and they will not see yours. If you recognize the work, decline the review immediately — the editor will reassign. Do not attempt to confirm authorship by searching for the manuscript online.
5. Conflict of Interest
Decline the review if the manuscript belongs to a close collaborator, a current student you supervise, a co-author, or anyone with whom you cannot be impartial. A quick decline is always better than a compromised review.
6. How to Submit Your Review
Once logged in, open the manuscript from My Assignments and use the Manuscript Review screen to:
- Add page-level recommendations through the Add Recommendation panel.
- Save private notes that only you and the editor will see.
- Submit a final recommendation when ready. Once you submit Accept Submission or Decline Submission, the review is locked.
7. Guidelines and Rubric
Detailed review guidelines and the evaluation rubric used across all CCA journals are available after you log in, on the reviewer dashboard under Guidelines & Resources.
8. Questions
Contact the Chief Editor at editor@cca.edu.ph before accepting your first assignment if anything is unclear.
